Description
Belgian Waffles are thick, crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, making them the perfect breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
2 Cups Flour
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Sugar
2 Eggs, separated
1/3 Cup Oil
2 Cups Milk
1 tsp Vanilla Essence
Instructions
- Start by sieving the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar) into a large mixing bowl. Use a whisk to combine them evenly.
- Separate the eggs. Add the yolks to the dry ingredients and place the whites into a separate, clean bowl.
- Pour the oil, milk, and vanilla essence into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Whisk everything together until the batter is smooth and there are no dry spots of flour.
- Whip the egg whites using a hand mixer or a whisk until they form stiff peaks.
- Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the batter, mixing until well combined.
- Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with oil or melted butter.
- Pour around 3/4 cup of the batter into the waffle iron and cook for 5-10 minutes or until the waffles are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the waffles immediately with fresh berries, whipped cream, and maple syrup.
Notes
- For a sweeter taste, substitute sugar with honey, maple syrup, or other sweeteners.
- To make extra crispy waffles, place them on a cooling rack in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for a few minutes before serving.
- If you don’t have a waffle iron, use a skillet or griddle, though the texture will be more like pancakes.
- For vegan waffles, replace the eggs with flaxseed or chia seed mixture and use plant-based milk and oil.
- Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips or fruit to the batter before cooking for a fun twist.
