Description

Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a flavorful twist on a classic dish, featuring tender ground chicken, a creamy Cajun sauce, and melted cheddar cheese. Spicy, creamy, and satisfying, it’s the perfect meal for a weeknight or weekend treat.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground chicken

1 Small onion, finely chopped

1 Bell pepper, chopped

2 Cloves garlic, minced

1 tbsp Olive oil

1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning

1/2 Cup chicken broth

1/4 Cup heavy cream

1 Cup shredded cheddar cheese

4 Brioche or hamburger buns

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned and fully cooked.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Stir in chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until tender and fragrant.
  3. Season and Simmer: Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika (optional), salt, and pepper. Stir well. Pour in chicken broth and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Creamy Finish: Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream and shredded cheddar cheese, stirring constantly until melted and creamy.
  5. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Lightly toast brioche or hamburger buns. Spoon a generous portion of the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, then cap with the top bun.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm with your favorite side dish like fries, slaw, or chips.

Notes

Swap ground turkey, beef, or plant-based crumbles for a different protein option.

For a dairy-free version, replace heavy cream with coconut cream and use vegan cheese.

For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce; reduce Cajun seasoning for a milder flavor.

For a low-carb alternative, serve the filling over rice, baked potatoes, or in lettuce wraps.

Toast the buns for a better texture and to prevent sogginess.
