Description
Campfire Bread on a Stick is a fun and easy way to bake fresh bread outdoors. With simple ingredients and no kneading required, these crispy and soft bread sticks are perfect for camping trips, offering a fun and interactive baking experience.
Ingredients
1 tsp dried yeast
1 tsp sugar
2 ½ cups (300 g) flour
⅞ cup (200 ml) warm water
2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
1 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients into a moist dough. There’s no need to knead!
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough has risen, lightly flour your hands and knock the dough back into a ball.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Stretch and roll each piece into a long sausage shape.
- Twist the dough around the end of your stick. Pinch the dough together to secure it.
- Hold the stick over hot embers (not flames) and rotate the bread until all sides are browned and crispy.
- Once cooked, slide the bread off the stick and enjoy immediately! Optionally, you can fill the hole with your favorite jam.
Notes
- For a savory version, add herbs like rosemary, thyme, or garlic to the dough.
- For a sweeter version, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the dough before cooking.
- For a vegan cheese and garlic twist, stuff the dough with vegan cheese and garlic before cooking.
- If using gluten-free flour, add xanthan gum for structure and use a certified gluten-free flour blend.
