Description

This chocolate chip skillet cookie is a warm, gooey, and delicious dessert that’s perfect for sharing. Made in just 30 minutes, it features crispy edges and a soft, chewy center. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat everyone will love.

Ingredients

2 ¼ cups (280 g) unbleached all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup (170 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

1 cup (200 g) packed light brown sugar

½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

1 large egg, room temperature

1 egg yolk, room temperature

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 ½ cups (260 g) semisweet chocolate chips

Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350℉. Lightly grease a 10-inch or 12-inch cast iron skillet with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a stand mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar on medium-high speed until light in color, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, mixing until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand.
  6. Transfer the dough into the prepared skillet, pressing it into an even layer.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is soft but set.
  8. Cool for 15 minutes, then top with vanilla ice cream and optional toppings like caramel sauce or a sprinkle of sea salt.

Notes

  • Use different types of chocolate chips such as milk chocolate, white chocolate, or peanut butter chips for variety.
  • Add mix-ins like chopped nuts, toffee bits, or M&M’s for extra flavor and texture.
  • For a nutty flavor, try browning the butter before adding it to the dough.
  • Make mini skillet cookies by dividing the dough into smaller portions and baking for 10-15 minutes.
  • Store any leftovers at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
