Description
Bite-sized, crispy churros coated in cinnamon-sugar for a delicious and quick dessert. Perfect for dipping in chocolate, caramel, or dulce de leche.
Ingredients
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup water
2 ½ tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a medium bowl or brown paper bag, combine the ½ cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Set aside for later.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F, making sure there is about 2-½ inches of oil in the fryer.
- In a small saucepan, combine water, 2-½ tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Stir and bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Add the flour to the saucepan and stir until the mixture forms a dough ball. Let the dough cool slightly.
- Once cool enough to touch, scoop and gently roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts.
- Carefully drop 3-4 dough balls at a time into the hot oil, frying for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Remove and toss in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- For a richer experience, dip the churros poppers in melted chocolate, Nutella, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche.
- You can adjust the cinnamon-sugar ratio or add a dash of nutmeg for a unique flavor.
- Churros Poppers are best enjoyed fresh, but you can reheat them in the oven for a crispy finish.
- For a lighter alternative, bake the poppers at 375°F for 10-12 minutes instead of frying.
