Easy to make and customizable, this bread will fill your kitchen with the inviting scent of a donut shop.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup granulated sugar (for topping)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal after baking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar for the topping, then sprinkle it evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap and foil to freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
- If you prefer a dairy-free version, substitute the butter with dairy-free margarine or coconut oil and use plant-based milk such as almond or oat milk.
- Feel free to add nuts, chocolate chips, or even a glaze for extra flavor!
