Ingredients
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
4 tablespoons honey
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Optional: toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
-
In a bowl, whisk together egg whites, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat evenly.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
-
In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Pour in honey, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
-
Return the fried chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
-
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a teaspoon of chili flakes or a splash of sriracha to the sauce.
- To make it gluten-free, substitute tamari for soy sauce and ensure the cornstarch is certified gluten-free.
- For an extra crispy texture, double-fry the chicken pieces.
