Description
Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a delicious twist on the classic breakfast, made with soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls soaked in a cinnamon-infused custard. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for serving with fresh fruit, maple syrup, and powdered sugar.
Ingredients
1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian Rolls
3 large eggs
3/4 cup half and half or whole milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Pinch of salt
4 tablespoons butter, for cooking
Powdered sugar, fresh fruit, maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and half and half until fully combined.
- Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt, and whisk until incorporated.
- Use a toothpick to poke several holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll to allow the custard to soak in more flavor.
- Dip the rolls in the custard mixture for about 30 seconds per side. Be careful not to soak them too long.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat.
- Place the soaked rolls in the skillet and cook for 30-60 seconds on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the French toast warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with fresh berries and maple syrup.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the custard mixture.
- Top with whipped cream, fresh berries, or even melted chocolate for a more indulgent treat.
- Use gluten-free rolls for a gluten-free version.
- For dairy-free, use almond milk or coconut milk, and substitute the butter with dairy-free margarine.
