Ingredients
1 package rolled pie crust (2 count, 7.5 oz pack)
¾ cup strawberry jam
1 egg, for egg wash
2 teaspoons milk, for egg wash
Flour for dusting work surface
1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for icing)
1–2 tablespoons heavy cream (for icing)
1 tablespoon strawberry jam (for icing)
Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie crust and cut it into 3-inch wide strips, then cut each strip into 5-inch long sections. Reroll the scraps and repeat until you have enough rectangles.
- Place half the dough rectangles on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of strawberry jam onto the center of each rectangle, leaving a ¼-inch border around the edges.
- Place another rectangle of dough on top and seal the edges by crimping with a fork. Use a toothpick to poke a few small holes in the top to allow steam to escape.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the egg wash over the top of each pop tart.
- Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the pop tarts cool, prepare the icing by whisking together the confectioners’ sugar, cream, and strawberry jam until smooth.
- Once the pop tarts have cooled, spread the icing over the tops and garnish with sprinkles if desired.
Notes
- You can use any jam or preserves, such as raspberry, blueberry, or peach, for a fruity twist.
- For a chocolate version, replace jam with chocolate hazelnut spread.
- Freeze unbaked or baked (unfrosted) pop tarts for up to 1 month. To bake from frozen, add a few extra minutes of baking time.
- If the pop tarts start browning too quickly, reduce the temperature by 10-15°F and cover the edges with foil.
- Sprinkles are optional and can be skipped if preferred.
