Description

These homemade strawberry pop tarts are the perfect recipe for anyone craving a sweet, flaky treat with a nostalgic twist. Using store-bought pie dough, this quick and easy recipe delivers the classic flavor of strawberry pop tarts with a fresh, buttery twist. Ideal for breakfast, dessert, or a snack, these pop tarts are sure to become a family favorite!

Ingredients

1 package rolled pie crust (2 count, 7.5 oz pack)

¾ cup strawberry jam

1 egg, for egg wash

2 teaspoons milk, for egg wash

Flour for dusting work surface

1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for icing)

12 tablespoons heavy cream (for icing)

1 tablespoon strawberry jam (for icing)

Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie crust and cut it into 3-inch wide strips, then cut each strip into 5-inch long sections. Reroll the scraps and repeat until you have enough rectangles.
  3. Place half the dough rectangles on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of strawberry jam onto the center of each rectangle, leaving a ¼-inch border around the edges.
  4. Place another rectangle of dough on top and seal the edges by crimping with a fork. Use a toothpick to poke a few small holes in the top to allow steam to escape.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Brush the egg wash over the top of each pop tart.
  6. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While the pop tarts cool, prepare the icing by whisking together the confectioners’ sugar, cream, and strawberry jam until smooth.
  8. Once the pop tarts have cooled, spread the icing over the tops and garnish with sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  • You can use any jam or preserves, such as raspberry, blueberry, or peach, for a fruity twist.
  • For a chocolate version, replace jam with chocolate hazelnut spread.
  • Freeze unbaked or baked (unfrosted) pop tarts for up to 1 month. To bake from frozen, add a few extra minutes of baking time.
  • If the pop tarts start browning too quickly, reduce the temperature by 10-15°F and cover the edges with foil.
  • Sprinkles are optional and can be skipped if preferred.
