Description

A savory Swiss Mushroom Melt Delight featuring succulent beef patties, sautéed mushrooms, and melted Swiss cheese, all grilled to perfection on crispy sourdough or rye bread with a tangy mayo or garlic aioli spread.

Ingredients

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)

4 slices Swiss cheese

1 tbsp butter

4 slices sourdough or rye bread

1 cup mushrooms (sliced)

1 tbsp oil for grilling

2 tbsp mayo or garlic aioli

1 tsp salt & black pepper

Instructions

  1. Sauté mushrooms in butter over medium heat until golden brown and tender. Set aside.
  2. Mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form patties slightly larger than the bread and cook in a skillet until browned on both sides.
  3. Spread a thin layer of mayo on the bread. Place Swiss cheese on both sides, then add the beef patty and sautéed mushrooms.
  4. Heat a skillet and grill the sandwich until the bread is golden brown and crispy, flipping carefully.
  5. Slice in half and serve hot, enjoying the gooey, cheesy, crispy delight.

Notes

  • Vegetarian Option: Use a plant-based meat substitute or a hearty portobello mushroom patty, adding grilled zucchini or eggplant for extra flavor.
  • Cheese Swap: Try cheddar, provolone, or gouda for a different flavor, ensuring it melts well.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare mushrooms and beef patties ahead of time to save time during assembly.
  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free bread to make this sandwich suitable for those with gluten sensitivities.
  • Extra Crispy: Brush the outside of the bread with butter or oil before grilling, or use a panini press for an extra crispy finish.
